No cares for me
I'm happy as I can be
I've learned to love and to live
Devil may care
No cares and woes
Whatever comes later goes
That's how I'll take and I'll give
Devil may care
When the day is through, I suffer no regrets
I know that he who frets, loses the night
For only a fool, thinks he can hold back the dawn
He who is wise never tries to revise what's past and gone
Live love today, let him come tomorrow what may
Don't even stop for a sigh, it doesn't help if you cry
That's how I'll live and I'll die
And devil may care
No cares for me
I'm happy as I can be
I've learned to love and to live
Devil may care
No cares and woes
Whatever comes later goes
That's how I'll take and I'll give
Devil may care
When the day is through, I suffer no regrets
I know that he who frets, loses the night
For only a fool, thinks he can hold back the dawn
He who is wise never tries to revise what's past and gone
Live love today, let him come tomorrow what may
Don't even stop for a sigh, it doesn't help if you cry
That's how I'll live and I'll die
Devil may care

You don't know what love is
Until you've learned the meaning of the blues
Until you've loved a love you've had to lose
You don't know what love is
You don't know how lips hurt
Until you've kissed and had to pay the cost
Until you've flipped your heart and you have lost
You don't know what love is
Do you know how lost heart feels
At the thought of reminiscing
And how lips that taste of tears
Lose their taste for kissing
You don't know how hearts burn
For love that cannot live yet never dies
Until you've faced each dawn with sleepless eyes
You don't know what love is

É pau, é pedra
É o fim do caminho
É um resto de toco
É um pouco sozinho...
É um caco de vidro
É a vida, é o sol
É a noite, é a morte
É um laço, é o anzol...
É peroba do campo
O nó da madeira
Caingá, Candeia
É o matita-pereira...
É madeira de vento
Tombo da ribanceira
É um mistério profundo
É o queira ou não queira...
É o vento ventando
É o fim da ladeira
É a viga, é o vão
Festa da Cumieira...
É a chuva chovendo
É conversa ribeira
Das águas de março
É o fim da canseira...
É o pé é o chão
É a marcha estradeira
Passarinho na mão
Pedra de atiradeira...
Uma ave no céu
Uma ave no chão
É um regato, é uma fonte
É um pedaço de pão...
É o fundo do poço
É o fim do caminho
No rosto o desgosto
É um pouco sozinho...
É um estrepe, é um prego
É uma ponta, é um ponto
É um pingo pingando
É uma conta, é um conto...
É um peixe, é um gesto
É uma prata brilhando
É a luz da manhã
É o tijolo chegando...
É a lenha, é o dia
É o fim da picada
É a garrafa de cana
Estilhaço na estrada...
É o projeto da casa
É o corpo na cama
É o carro enguiçado
É a lama, é a lama...
É um passo é uma ponte
É um sapo, é uma rã
É um resto de mato
Na luz da manhã...
São as águas de março
Fechando o verão
É a promessa de vida
No teu coração...
É pau, é pedra
É o fim do caminho
É um resto de toco
É um pouco sozinho...
É uma cobra, é um pau
É João, é José
É um espinho na mão
É um corte no pé...
São as águas de março
Fechando o verão
É a promessa de vida
No teu coração...
É pau, é pedra
É o fim do caminho
É um resto de toco
É um pouco sozinho...
É um passo, é uma ponte
É um sapo, é uma rã
É um belo horizonte
É uma febre terçã...
São as águas de março
Fechando o verão
É a promessa de vida
No teu coração...
É pau, é pedra
É o fim do caminho
É um resto de toco
É um pouco sozinho...
É pau, é pedra
É o fim do caminho
É um resto de toco
É um pouco sozinho...

My funny valentine,
Sweet comic valentine,
You make me smile with my heart.
Your looks are laughable, un-photographable,
Yet, you're my favorite work of art.
Is your figure less than Greek?
Is your mouth a little weak?
When you open it to speak, are you smart?
But, don't change a hair for me.
Not if you care for me.
Stay little valentine, stay!
Each day is Valentine's Day

There I go, there I go, there I go, there I go
Pretty baby you are the soul who snaps my control
Such a funny thing but every time you're near me,
I never can behave
You give me a smile and then I'm wrapped up in your magic
There's music all around me, crazy music
Music that keeps calling me so very close to you,
turns me your slave
Come on and do with me any little thing that you want to
Anything, baby just let me get next to you
So am I insane or do I really see heaven in your eyes?
Bright as stars that shine up above you in the clear blue skies
How I worry 'bout you, just can't live my life without you
Baby come here, don't have no fear
Oh, is there a wonder why I'm really feeling in the mood for love
So tell me why, stop to think about this weather, my dear
This little dream might fade away
There I go talking out of my head again
Baby won't you come and put our two hearts together?
That would make me strong and brave
Oh, when we are one, I'm not afraid, I'm not afraid
Now if there's a cloud up above us come on and let in rain
I'm sure our love together will endure a hurricane
Ooh my baby won't you please let me love you
And give relief from this awful misery?
What is all this talk about loving me, my sweet?
I am not afraid, not anymore, not like before, can't you understand me?
Now baby please pull yourself together, do it soon
My soul's on fire, come on and take me
I'll be what you make me, my darling, my sweet
Oh baby, you make me feel so good, let me take you by the hand
Come let me visit out there in that new promised land
Maybe there we can find a good place to use a lovin' state of mind
I'm so tired of being without it, never knowin' what love's about
James Moody you can come on if you want to,
we're through

Them that's got shall have
Them that's not shall lose
So the Bible said and it still is news
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own
That's got his own
Yes, the strong gets more
While the weak ones fade
Empty pockets don't ever make the grade
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own
That's got his own
Money, you've got lots of friends
Crowding round the door
When you're gone, spending ends
They don't come no more
Rich relations give
Crust of bread and such
You can help yourself
But don't take too much
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own
That's got his own

Just a cast away an island lost at sea
Another lonely day, no one here but me
More loneliness than any man could bear
Rescue me before I fall into despair
I'll send an S.O.S. to the world
I hope that someone gets my message in a bottle
Message in a bottle
A year has passed since I wrote my note
I should have known this right from the start
Only hope can keep me together
Love can mend your life but love can break your heart
I'll send an S.O.S. to the world
I hope that someone gets my message in a bottle yeah
Message in a bottle
Walked out this morning I don't believe what I saw
A hundred billion bottles washed up on the shore
Seems I'm not alone in being alone
A hundred billion castaways looking for a home

Quiero emborrachar mi corazón
para apagar un loco amor,
que mas que amor es un sufrir:
y aqui vengo para eso,
a borrar antiguos besos
en los besos de otra boca....
Si su amor fue flor de un dia
¿Por qué causa es siempre mia
esta cruel preocupación?
Quiero por los dos mi copa alzar
para poder así brindar por los fracasos del amor...
Nostalgias
de escuchar su risa loca
y sentir junto a mi boca,
como un fuego, su respiración.
Angustia
de sentirme abandonada,
de pensar que otra, a su lado.
pronto, pronto le hablara de amor.
Hermano,
yo no quiero rebajarme,
ni pedirle, ni llorarle,
ni decirle que no quiero mas vivir...
Desde mi triste soledad veré caer
las rosas muertas de mi juventud.

Quiet nights of quiet stars,
Quiet chords from my guitar,
Floating on the silence that surronds us,
Quiet thoughts and quiet dreams,
Quiet walks by quiet streams,
And window that looking so to Corcovado,
How lovely.
This is where I want to be,
Here with you so close to me
Until the final flicker of lives ember
And I who was lost and lonely
Believing life was only
A bitter tragic joke, have found in you
The meaning of existence oh my love
Um cantinho, um violão,
Esse amor numa canção,
Pra fazer feliz a quem se ama,
Muita calma pra pensar e ter tempo pra sonhar,
Da janela vê-se o Corcovado,
O Redentor que lindo.
Quero a vida sempre assim,
Com você perto de mim,
Até o apagar da velha chama,
E eu que era triste,
Descrente de sinismo,
Ao encontrar você eu conheci,
O que é Felicidade, Meu Amor.

Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick,
And think of you
Caught up in circles
Confusion is nothing new
Flashback, warm nights
Almost left behind
Suitcases of memories,
Time after
Sometimes you picture me
I'm walking too far ahead
You're calling to me, I can't hear
What you've said
Then you say, go slow
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds
If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I will be waiting
Time after time
If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I will be waiting
Time after time
After my picture fades and darkness has
Turned to gray
Watching through windows
You're wondering if I'm okay
Secrets stolen from deep inside
The drum beats out of time
If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I will be waiting
Time after time
You said go slow
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds

Pack up all my cares and woes
Here I go, singing low
Bye-bye blackbird
Where somebody waits for me
Sugar's sweet and so is he
Bye bye blackbird
No one here can love and understand me
Oh what hard-luck stories they all hand me
Make my bed, light the light, I'll be coming home late tonight
Blackbird, bye bye

It is amazing to watch an artist grow right before you eyes. For years I have been following Anna Rodriguez career from a distance. Rodriguez beautiful voice and talent has always been there. What Anna has developed through these years is a maturity in her voice and phrasing, becoming a true jazz singer. A maturity that allows her to deliver a song with the conviction of a seasoned singer no matter the style, like the bluesy "God Bless The Child", the bolero "Nostalgia" or the jazzy arrangements of The Police "Message in a Bottle" and Cindy Lauper "Time After Time".
Anna Rodriguez development has to do most of all with her dedication and love for the music. But another important factor in Rodriguez growth as a musician is her music relation with guitar virtuoso Eliseo Lloreda. They have been partners in crime, presenting their music throughout Islas Canarias and Spain.
Their relation has created an undeniable chemistry that may be heard on their debut album as a duo, What We Are. Simply incredible how full and rich the music feels and how much it swings in tracks like "Devil May Care", "Woody's Mood for Love" and "Bye Bye Blackbird" with just Lloreda's guitar and Rodrguez vocals. Lloreda only needs his guitar and impressive technique to create rhythms, complex harmonies to beautifully accompany Anna Rodrguez voice.
I also remember when Anna started experimenting with brazilian music, and on What We Are she included two of Jobim classics, "Aguas de Março" and "Corcovado". Rodriguez sings in perfect portuguese and with the right feeling for this kind of music so it is obvious this songs has been part of her repertoire for the past few years.
With this release Rodriguez realized her dream of recording a jazz album and at the same time starts to establish herself as one of the best jazz singers in Spain.
Wilbert Sostre,
